Being part of a community means to be aware of the history, traditions, culture, and important facts of the place we live in. When we know about our home, we value our identity as good citizens. In the Unit of Inquiry 3, fifth graders are learning about cultures, celebrations, history, and important information about Ecuador and the United States.
As an activity for tuning in our kids, we had a special visit of Mrs. Caroline Dahlgren who is an American citizen mother of one of our students. Mrs. Dahlgren gave a fun and engaging speech about Pennsylvania. During this visit, students were happy to ask and answer questions about this state in the Northeast Region. They also talked about the previous knowledge they have about the American history.
Children were excited to learn curious facts about this state and how important it is for the American economy. In addition, kids also learned about their traditions, and could make a comparison with the Ecuadorian culture.
